David N. Jonson to Speak at Financial Planning Association of the Triangle's April Meeting
CARY, NC…APRIL 2, 2009…David N. Jonson, Partner at K&L Gates LLP, will present "Staying Out of the Regulators Crosshairs; Avoiding Regulatory and Enforcement Actions in a Changing Environment" at the Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) of the Triangle's April 9 meeting.
FPA is the non-profit membership organization for the financial planning community with more than 28,500 members in 100 chapters across the country. FPA connects those who need, support and deliver financial planning. We believe that everyone is entitled to objective advice from a competent, ethical financial planner to make smart financial decisions. FPA members demonstrate and support a professional commitment to education and a client-centered financial planning process.
David Jonson concentrates his practice in this area of securities law, focusing on compliance and defense matters. He will discuss the changing regulatory and compliance environment, and strategies that financial services professionals can employ to avoid problems in these areas. His presentation has been approved for 1 (one) CFP CEU.
Mr. Jonson has defended broker-dealers in NASD securities arbitrations involving millions of dollars in potential liability; advised private investment fund managers and venture capital finders on federal and state regulatory issues arising under the '33 Act, '34 Act, '40 Act, and related rules; advised South Carolina Attorney General on federal and state securities law issues, statutes, regulations, and policies; proposed and drafted state legislation, regulations, and policies; and directed and managed all legal, investigative, enforcement, and regulatory activities of the South Carolina Securities Commission. Prior to joining K&L Gates LLP, David was Deputy Attorney General and Deputy Securities Commissioner for the State of South Carolina from 1997-2000.
