JUNE 2007

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Here we are nearly half-way through 2007. On June 14 we had our 6th program meeting with an interesting and informative session on Exchange Traded Funds presented by Jonathan Wills with PowerShares Xchange Traded Funds with almost 50 guests and members in attendance.

As we launch into the second half of 2007, I would like to acknowledge the excellent teamwork of our Leadership Team in developing interesting and successful programs for 2007 as well as the efforts in the many other operational areas of the Chapter. As we look ahead to 2008, we are always searching for few good leaders. Please let us know if you have an interest in getting more involved in the Chapter operations. It is an educational and rewarding experience to help further the profession and to work in your area of passion.

We will kick off the second half of the year with the July 12 Half-Day “Get out of Jail Free” Symposium at Brier Creek Country Club. The focus of the meeting is two-fold:
  1. Ethics training – 2 hours CFP Ethics CEU credits. The presentation will be by International Speaker, Trainer and Consultant on Business Ethics Patrick Kuhse. Patrick is a former CFP and convicted felon who has lived the problems of getting off track regarding ethics in our business. An informative interview with Patrick appeared in the February 2006 issue Journal of Financial Planning in the “10 questions section.” This promises to be an informative session. Keep in mind that no CFP CE Ethics credit will be offered at the September Symposium.
  2. Practice Management Presentations – 2 hours CFP CEU credits. David Lawrence will make two presentations on Practice Management. David is a regular columnist in the Financial Advisor magazine and his presentations will offer important insight into the practice management issues.
We have added the Half-Day Symposium to the schedule this year in hopes that our outlying members will find the trip to Raleigh more worthwhile. We hope to see many of you outlying members in attendance.

Soon you will be receiving a Member Survey and we encourage you to take the time to give us your thoughts. Thank you in advance for your participation.

John Sleesman

FPA IS PARTNERING WITH JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT – WE ARE SEEKING VOLUNTEERS
Work is underway to develop a partnership between the Financial Planning Association® and Junior Achievement Worldwide™.  The partnership will be formally announced at the FPA annual conference in Seattle in September, with implementation during Financial Planning Week October 1-7, 2007. Junior Achievement has already developed the curriculum and materials. FPA of the Triangle is seeking 10-20 volunteers to work in local classrooms this fall to teach the curriculum and improve the financial literacy of children in grades K-12. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Holly Durham, Director of Community Outreach, at (919) 218-6547 or hollydnc@yahoo.com. To learn more about Junior Achievement, go to www.juniorachievement.net.
