AUGUST 2008

THE PRESIDENT'S TWO CENTS

Full Day Symposium
Speakers for our Full Day Symposium have been finalized. The Chapter has applied for 8 hours of CFP® and NC Insurance continuing education credits – a total of 16 hours. The topics were chosen to help you better navigate your clients through the current market conditions.

Please visit the Chapter’s Web site and take a look at the topics and speakers. There is something there for everyone. If you have not already registered, please do so. CE credit for less than $10.00 per hour is a bargain.

A Few Good Planners
Dexter Perry, CFP® and Jon Jackson, CFP® answered the Chapter’s call for help. Dexter is a Senior Wealth Planner with The Providence Group of North Carolina in Cary, NC. Jon is a Registered Principal with Ameriprise in Raleigh, NC. The Board looks forward to working with both planners as we begin looking at next year’s and beyond activities.

Need for Volunteers
With the addition of Dexter and Jon to the Board, there is still a net gain of zero. We are still looking to fill the following positions:

Treasurer
Corporate Sponsor Director
Educational Program Director
Strategic Alliances Director
Community Outreach Director

Please contact any Board member or the Chapter Executive (administrator@fpatriangle.org) if you have any interest in the above positions (duties or time commitment) or other opportunities to help our Chapter.

Year-end Planning
Even though the Chapter’s strategic planning session is scheduled for the fourth quarter, we have informally begun the process. Obviously, building and retaining membership, and Board development are priority issues. The effect of the increased membership fee to the FPA will play out over time. Providing quality programs, and making sure they are a real value, will continue to be a challenge. Managing the Chapter on limited resources (people and money) will be an even greater challenge.

Since the planning of the monthly programs and the Symposia require a huge amount of the Board’s attention, we will look at cutting back on the number of opportunities to earn continuing education credits. Even though the possibility of merging with the Charlotte Chapter is a last resort move, it will be an item of discussion. The Board is looking to host an event to promote the profession by having consumers meet with planners on a limited basis to discuss a specific planning situation.

This is our Chapter. And obviously taking a leadership role in our Chapter is not for everyone. However, for the rest of you, fresh ideas and a full tank of enthusiasm are all that is needed.

Thank you,

Augustus Thompson
President, FPA of the Triangle

MEMBER MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES

The media frequently ask the FPA public relations department to provide access to our members’ expertise when working on stories about financial planning, industry issues, investing, and insurance. Public relations then sends an e-mail with a brief description of what the reporter wants to a list of members who have volunteered to be interviewed.  If you would like to be on the list and are willing to be a spokesperson for the FPA, please e-mail Bedda D’Angelo at bdangelo@fiduciarysolutions.com for more information.
